Furious Anger

August 4th 2009 09:35
New boys North Queensland Fury will sport a scrumptuous two tone green strip with a splash of white. Some have said 'puke' in response to it's unveiling but I find the strip rather attractive. Green and white look so good together. Does soccer and North Queensland go together? You bet it does. The Fury are looking to appeal to and get all warm and fuzzy with the local community . . . make themselves accessible like, yeah. Much like the Central Coast Mariners have done in sunny Gosford. Today we focus our attention on both these clubs and their preparations for A - League 09/10.

The Fury have Fowler. Known as 'Robbie God' to some. Fowler brings crowds, Fowler brings interest, Fowler brings goals. With the likes of Jason Spagnuolo, Ufuk Talay and young Rostyn Griffiths in the centre of the park, the Fury will definitely have a midfield presence. Okay at the back you've got Scott Wilson as the only guy who has established himself at a high level. But you can never deny bitterness as a motivator. The Fury have picked up Karl Dodd and Jacob Timpano who will relish this opportunity to prove their doubters wrong.

With workaholics like Robbie Middleby setting an example and himself motivated to an immeasurable level alongside Fowler the youngsters are going to benefit hugely. What about the affect Robbie God will have on young Kiwi striker Jeremy Brockie. Ooh I got a thing for Brockie. Nine goals for the Kiwi franchise in his first season, now he finds himself playing alongside Robbie Fowler. Ooh I love this kid. Lets move onto David Williams the much spruked Young Socceroo. What affect will Fowler have on this kid. The excitement is at fever pitch. I'm on fire!

I can't wait to see the expression on the doubters faces when the Fury's supporter group the F-Troop turns Dairy Farmers Stadium into a cocophany of Furious Green Energy. These guys are set to become the go-to team of the A - League. Can they travel though? It will depend on whether their supporter group can afford the flights. Fortunately flights are at bargain bonus prices these days.

Central Coast Mariners are attempting to pull off their usual "ha, ha, you said we'd never make it" trick. When you look at some of their attacking options you start to believe "hey maybe we shouldn't write these guys off". Picture Ahmad Elrich and Adrian Caceres both firing and you start to think wait a minute. You have Matt Simon and Dylan Macallister up front with guys like Kwasnik who has the ability to cross and finish also. I've got an opinion of Shane Huke also. He isn't Mile Jedinak but he gives that rugged edge to the Mariners midfield while new signing Michael McGlinchey looks sure to be a success. The 22 year old has done time at Celtic and he has signed himself to a two year deal. I like the sounds of this one.

Okay it all went wrong for the Mariners at the tail of season 4 due to an unusually leaky defence. I can see this once formiddable wall once again proving tough to break down. The purchase of Chris Doig should brings some energy into the back four which might have been missing at the end of last season. Sometimes you just get sick of the same old faces, and I'm sure Doig will have some tales to tell of his many years in England's lower leagues. He will bring the squad together with some cracking yarns. The Mariners are looking more tasty with every visit to their website. You just know Elrich will come up with something big. He wants a crack at that World Cup in 2010.

Final verdict on Central Coast Mariners will come prior to kick off on Thursday night but I'm leaning toward the Mariners once again proving the surprise packet.
