El Masri Faces Backlash

April 17th 2007 02:52
Canterbury Bulldogs (NRL) winger and goalkicker Hazem El Masri has followed the lead of other out of touch footballers by expecting to receive special treatment from police. In an incident at Regents Park in Sydney's south-west El Masri and his lawyer friend Adam Houda refused to give proof of identity after requests from police.
Clearly the two would prefer to ask questions of police and create trouble rather than assist them. El Masri tells us he was not legally required to show I.D. unless there was due reason. What is due reason and what isn't is subjective. Police records show that Amy street where the pair were seated at the time, has had 162 complaints (call-outs) since 2006. This is three times the average for the area. So maybe the boys in blue might have good reason to be a little more stringent in there investigations.

At the crux of the matter is the supposed over reaction by police to call for backup. El Masri counted up to nine officers before eventually being identified by one without requiring drivers licenses to be passed to officers.
The law man Adam Houda says, "we dont want lawsuits, just the right thing to be done." And alongside him El Masri tells us he just wants an apology. The pair argue that if this sort of thing could happen to a registered lawyer and a first grade footballer, what would happen if it was just some young Lebanese kid.
And what will an apology give Hazem? Victory. Yes, it will be another victory for civil libertarians, and in particular the Lebanese community over our powerless police service. Lets stop there though. Just imagine if the three involved (a third un-named man was also present) simply complied with the request in the first place.
El Masri
El Masri a poor role model

None of this would have occurred. Instead we have this role model for young Lebanese telling his mate Danny Weidler in a television interview that police think they can get away with anything just because thay have a uniform on.
If a police officer can't even ask you for identification, I wonder what powers Hazem would like our police to have, if any at all. Judging by the backlash from readers of the Daily Telegraph today (17/04/07), Hazem has lost a lot of the support from members of the public that he previously won over. I just hope he teaches his children and anyone prepared to listen that members of the police srevice in New South Wales are to be respected, no matter who you are or where you come from.

Ok first of all Hazem Elmasri is a man to be respected and of course he makes a brilliant role model to young guys like me and other kids in the community...now it is clear that you are a red neck you see as you said '162 complaints' in that area how does that affect those respectable boys just admit it why dont you, you and those boys in blue are complete racsits, lets say for example if fattty from the footy show was at the same scene ( i have nothing against fatty top bloke funny guy just using him as an example of an Australian who was born in the country and does not look like he has any strains of middle eastern, asian african, etc) you think they would have needed to force his ID or call for back up? no i could bet my life on that and if you think they are anti Australian law then your just a complete idiot, Adam Houda is a LAWyer. And Hazem Elmasri is the most law abbiding footballer in league that i know he has helped the youth which you and the goverment have been accusing of causing trouble which in itself is completely exaggerated. So you also show a picture of Haz holding an Australian flag, then Haz holding a Lebanese flag and in between both pictures it says 'idenity crisis' i would laugh to the ground if i wasnt so pissed. You see if you didnt know ( obviously u did know but you just put that in because others wont and they will hate Haz but even if you didnt know this i can not understand why you would) when Haz had that picture of him taken he was in Lebanon playing for his country and they would have probably won that match and he would have been proud of his team and country so he held up the flag great work Haz, so his from Lebanon and his holding a lebanese flag .. what a crime did it occur to you that his played for Australia aswell? do you want him to completely forget about his country??? pretend he wasnt born there and forget about his ancestors and family? well if thats what you want its not going to happen. So you think Hazem thinks his above law well i just gave you points about the law so if you are smarter than the average bear you would be feeling like an idiot. Hazem is and extremely modest person who does not boast about his achievments and to say he believes his above law is just ignorance... there is heaps of other things i ould write to back up my thoughts but that would take a very long time.

the bottom line is that you a racsist who just wants to pick on Haz because his come from the Middle East.

I hope i have changed your thoughts on this issue.

sorry about the second quote lol it was supposed to look like this ( obviously u did know but you just put that in because others wouldnt know and they will hate Haz for it but even if you didnt know this i can not understand why you would have anything against him for doing this)

Your comments are both boring and predictable. Please don't post again until you learn the meaning and correct spelling of racism.

Boring? What do u want? You want to go on an adventure? and if it is so predictable then you should be understanding what i was saying, the reason i wrote two similar comments is because i was trying to get it through that other guys thick skull about what i was argueing about and if he got wat i was saying then he should completely agree with what I said! and i did spell racsim wrong occasionally but i also spelt it write at times which shows that i do know how to spell it and i gave a reason why my grammar might be poor over the 'computer' and if you read my previous commnet you would understand, so you just made yourself look like a complete idiot, congradulations!

The meaning of racsim is to judge a person from a specfic race differently to others just because of their race, i think i have a write to be commenting on this page because that is fact, hazem would have been judged differentley if he was of Anglo Saxon decent, true?

i find this post completly and utterly ridiculous, HAzem El Masri is not a poor role model nor is he "wayward". HAzem should be looked up to and admired for his tireless positive community actions and his admirable atttude.

Hazem seems to have a tired attitude these days. His kicking is crap and his community spirit is M.I.A.
